It happened many times in the history of medicine when amazing discoveries were made as a result of accidental observations and godsends.
The history of Viagra began in the course of pharmacological research of Pfizer Company in a place called Pfizer's Sandwich, UK, in 1992.Scientists had already tried for a long time to find a substance which would be "responsible" for blood vessels' widening, so that with its help they could make a medicine for atherosclerosis, heart attack and stroke. Apparently the discovery of Viagra became the third greatest, accidental discovery in medicine. It's proved by the fact that all the discoveries (antibiotics, X-ray photography) got a Nobel Prize. The researchers, who discovered the properties of Viagra as a medicine, as well as many other things, were given that great prize too in autumn, 1998.
Long clinical trials were initialized in 1993 which were necessary to confirm the properties of Viagra. The high efficiency of Viagra for treating impotence and its high safety were proved as a result of that research. The logical ending was that the Food and Drug Department of the USA approved of Viagra.
